Hello all. Here we are again. Another year has gone by and it’s time for Cathy and I to get ready to travel to Kasulu in Tanzania to be with our friends at Kasulu Bible College and the Diocese of Western Tanganyika. This year’s travel and ministry plans are similar to past years. We have an assortment of computer equipment we are bringing with us so that we can upgrade / replace some of the aging equipment at KBC. We will be outfitting them with 5 new Thin Client computers along with new wide screen monitors, keyboards and mice. If you are curious as to what I’m talking about when I mention “thin clients”, you can look back through previous posts to learn more about them. What I can tell you in short is that thin clients are very energy efficient computers because they run Windows session on them over a network from a primary computer or server. The server does all the work and the clients just make use of that resource, so the clients don’t need hard drives and other power consuming components as regular PC’s have. They make all kinds of sense for an environment like we have at KBC. Things are very dusty in Kasulu, so normal computers need a lot of maintenance to keep them clean and running well. Thin clients don’t need much maintenance except to occasionally blow the dust off and out of them. They don’t produce much heat so there are no cooling fans to get all gummed up with dirt, etc.
Our travels will start on Saturday, May 17th, where we will be flying from JFK airport through Dubai UAE and then down to Dar Es Salaam, the main entrance city into Tanzania. We will spend a couple of days there as we gather up supplies and equipment from a local vendor and then it’s off to Kigoma on Air Tanzania where we will meet up with our friends from DWT for a 2 hour drive to Kasulu.
We are looking forward to our trip and hope to share lots of facts and stories with you from day to day about what is going on and how we see The Lord guiding us and working out His plan in our midst. We hope you will enjoy the journey with us.
Blessings to you all in Christ,
Bill
We are back in Dar Es Salaam. Our day of travel yesterday went well and our hotel, the Tanzanite Exec Suites had a good deal on food. We could order from a list of local restaurants and they pick up the food and deliver it to your room. Since we got a free upgrade to a “family” suite, took the offer. As you can see in the accompanying photo, it’s a large suite with three bedrooms and a living room dining room combination. It was nice not having to go out at night in the city in and unknown area. You could easily walk around for a while and not know where to go for good food. Walking around today, during the daylight hours, I did find today some good restaurants that are not far from the hotel, so that will be good to know for future trips. And we got to check out another hotel that Bishop Makaya recommended that is just a couple of blocks away. It is also a vey nice place with very reasonable prices. That was good to find as the hotel I’ve normally used in the past has gotten much too expensive for our needs.
We’ll be leaving for the airport in about 30 minutes, so I need to finish packing. I’ll post again along our route as time and Internet access allows.
Safari njema!
Bill
